For Parents

Adolescence is a memorable yet challenging time for families. As parents, we want to help make our child’s transition toward greater independence as smooth as possible without interfering too much. Hard conversations, difficult decisions, and unexpected responses or events are all part of the growing process, and it’s often just as tricky for parents to cope with the changes as it is for young adults!

No matter the generation, it’s true what they say: It takes a village to raise a child. But it’s also true that it takes a village to support that child’s family! If you’re struggling to connect with your teen or you’re seeking helpful tools to facilitate better coping or communication, you’re not alone! At Footprints Forward, it is a privilege to collaborate and problem solve with caregivers through family sessions that ensure each individuals’ needs and concerns are validated and resolved.

Anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorder a diagnoses I often see in my practice, and I typical apply a CBT or DBT approach to treatment. Many teens talk about the delicate balance between:

  • desiring more independence vs. needing continued guidance from parents

  • owning increased responsibilities vs. inexperience with “adulting”

  • developing deeper relationships with others vs. embracing individuality

  • school and work stress vs. the importance of a healthy social life

  • exciting new achievements vs. self esteem set-backs

I pride my practice on open communication with caregivers while maintaining client trust and confidentiality. You are your child’s loudest cheerleader, strongest advocate, and most steady source of security! At the same time, it’s natural to seek some counsel along the way!

Please reach out anytime if you have questions or feedback about your child as they bravely undertake treatment goals. I love hearing from you! I am also eager to share valuable community resources and additional referrals as needed!
